Every car and van dealer has stock, finance offers and a busy forecourt, so if you’re marketing a dealership you’ll know that the hard part is being the name somebody thinks of in the one week every few years when they’re ready to buy. Here are some of the adverts we’ve made to help dealers do exactly that.
How TV works for car and van dealerships
People spend weeks or months thinking about their next car before they visit a showroom, and TV is a good way of getting your name onto their list while they do. Your customers mostly come from within a sensible drive of the forecourt, so you don’t need to pay for the whole country, and regional airtime keeps the budget where your buyers are. If you sell commercial vehicles, the campaign can be aimed at business customers instead.
What gets a dealership remembered is personality, because so much dealer advertising is cars and prices that viewers struggle to tell one from the next. A bit of humour, a memorable scenario or the real people from your dealership will give viewers something that a price list can’t, and if you’ve got a product or an offer that needs explaining, animation is very good at that.
We’ve produced several campaigns for Motor Depot (now CarSupermarket.com), among them one set in a classroom, an animation and their Showroom advert. We’ve also made adverts for Pulman, who had never been on TV before, and for Bell Truck and Van, who wanted to reach commercial customers.
There’s more on all of this, including what has to be shown on screen when an advert mentions finance, in TV advertising for car dealerships. When you’d like to talk about your own dealership, get in touch and we’ll give you an honest view of what might work, or you can start with what TV advertising costs.

Motor Depot don’t want adverts that only talk about prices, because they’d much rather make people laugh and sell them a car at the same time.

Bell Truck and Van is the Mercedes-Benz dealer for the North East, and this ad was made to do one specific job, which was to sell more vans to commercial customers.

This was the very first commercial the Pulman Group had ever run on TV, and they wanted it to say something about the kind of company they are.

Motor Depot had already promoted their Smart Drive product in several different ways, and they felt animation would give them a fresh way of explaining it.
