The brief
AirFair weren’t new to TV, having advertised for some time with a simple, no-frills approach. It had been successful, but they needed a new strategy if the campaign was going to grow.
The idea
We came up with the ‘flightless birds’, a cast of animated characters that gave the brand a personality. The thinking was that a plain message can do a job, but people remember characters, and if they remember the characters they remember who the advert was for.
The production
The ad combines 2D character animation with a piece of music that was written specially for the campaign, so the look and the sound were both made to measure.
The result
The advert was memorable and fun, with a clear message, and it got noticed in the way AirFair had hoped. The characters also turned out to be useful well beyond TV, because the same designs were reused for online and outdoor advertising, which meant the campaign looked the same wherever people came across it.
